Dance of the painted ladies

A pair of painted lady butterflies appear to be dancing in sync as they tack in the wind.

Faded glory

White wildflower holding its head up after a heavy rain and after the peak of its blooming.

STILL BEAUTIFUL – Even in its final days.

Late in the day

Interplay of sun and clouds near the end of the day.

SIDELIGHT – Setting sun skims the tops of clouds.

ANVIL — Cloud convects into an anvil with virga.

Minimalist

SIMPLE — A dragonfly on a stick. Doesn’t get any more simple than that.

Looks like it should bark

This bundle of spines looks like the insect world’s answer to Shih Tzus. (Maybe a tiger moth caterpillar?)

FURRY – The fine spines on this caterpillar make it look downright furry!

Grounded

This red-spotted purple probably escaped a predator at the cost of a wing and the ability to escape again. Though grounded, he continued to spread his wings in the sunshine.

STILL BEAUTIFUL – Red-spotted purple butterfly warms himself on the roadway.

Interloper

The local hummingbird gang  goes into defensive mode when a finch lights on their turf — the nectar feeder.

INVASION — Hummingbird feeder has another visitor.
