A few tense moments during blue gill spawning season in Coleman Creek as a small diamondback water snake goes head to head with a male fish protecting his nest. The snake eventually moved away. Each of those round depressions filled with gravel is a nest. Taken 10 May 2017.

  1. Totally amazing! Quite a surreal photo as the water is so clear it almost looks like the fish is swimming in air. I think the fish is a type of wrasse from the markings on it. Similar to the ones guarding their nests under Swanage pier when we were diving! Beautiful colours 🙂
